The Popular New (Old) Fad In Outdoor Furniture - Adirondack Is Back!
It's not a big surprise that an all-American classic like the Adirondack Chair is making a great come back in just the last few years. This fad is spreading quickly since families all over the country are electing to spend a lot more time relaxing in a meticulously devised outside living area. I remember as a six year old, sinking completely into one of these comfy old chairs, my legs hanging over the edge, while grandpa and I peeled apples and discussed the homemade apple pie smothered with melting ice cream that we just knew my grandma would have just for us after dinner. On the wide arm rest of the chair, I balanced a lemonade, the breeze was soft and warm. His stories made time fly. It's truly no big mystery why we like to unwind and relax outside, whether it is out on the patio, on your deck, in your garden area, or sitting on the porch watching the neighborhood. There may not be a better way to do that than to sit down in a deep seated, high backed, familiar Adirondack and just leave your cares behind.
Just where exactly did this piece of American culture come from? The Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, of course. This style was prevalent at the various mountain hide aways and vacation resorts that were so prominent in those days. By the 1940s you could find Adirondack furniture just about everywhere. The design began to move south and was going west fast. As the Adirondack furniture style began growing in popularity, and found its way around the country, influences regionally started to show up. The furniture design was utilized in a wide variety of outdoor furniture styles which include; gliders, porch swings, rocking chairs, benches, and thanks to our Canadian neighbors, a conversation piece referred to as the "tete a tete" which means literally; "head to head". This romantic little design combines a couple of chairs with a table in between them built as one piece. What a fantastic way to spend a warm Summer day with a good friend!
You will be satisfied and amazed to find a large variety of Adirondack furniture that's available currently. The original style has not only withstood the test of time, but the whole Adirondack sensation has exploded with a charming assortment of material, styles, colors, and finishes. Conventional Adirondack furniture is built out of wood that's known to resist insects and deterioration like red or white cedar, cypress, oak, or cherry. The wood selected is going to vary depending on the part of the country as do specific furniture styles. A hot option in classic Adirondack is deck or patio furniture built using polymer "lumber" that is literally made from recycled plastic packaging, old milk cartons, and other things. Not only is this an environmentally responsible way to purchase your furniture, but you'll also have advantages with durability, longevity, ease of care, and your colors aren't going to eventually fade because the pigments are mixed all the way through the plastic resin with UV inhibitors for added protection.
